Sculpture

This piece is meant to be an abstract interpretation of what it might have like being pulled in two different worlds during the time of the Trail of Tears. After proving themselves as “a civilized tribe” and demonstrating the ability to “walk” in the colonizer’s world, our ancestors were still removed — in fact, walked — off our homelands — disconnecting us to the entire way of being that we’ve always known. At first glance, this piece looks completely abstract, but if one looks closely at the invisible figure, it represents the Cherokee people emerging between these two worlds repeatedly throughout history.
