Before shaping them, the artist studied archaeological accounts of ancient Caddo earspools. Guided by photographs and illustrations of these historic pieces, the artist created a present-day continuation of Caddo earspool traditions.\u003cbr\u003e\nAfter being shaped and allowed to dry, each earspool was burnished with a smooth stone, giving it a polished sheen. They were then fired in an open-ground fire.
