Drawing, Graphics & Mixed Media

Forgotten Memories is a cyanotype combining graphic design structure with layered photographic imagery. Scanned family photographs merge with images I have created that recall childhood memories of growing up Cherokee — creek beds, insects, organic textures, and crawdads. Through the cyanotype process, light reveals and obscures these fragments, reflecting how memory shifts over time while honoring personal and cultural inheritance.

About the Artist

Crystal Walters

Cherokee Nation

Crystal Walters is a multidisciplinary artist and citizen of the Cherokee Nation. An alumnus of Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma, Walters holds a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in graphic design, printmaking and experimental photography.

Now managing the Cherokee Arts Center and Spider Gallery, her work has evolved toward a culturally rooted aesthetic. Drawing from childhood memories of growing up Cherokee — creek beds, crawdads, insects and organic materials — she incorporates family photo scans and layered imagery to explore heritage, memory and identity through analog and digital processes.
