About the Artist

Katherine Ashby

Choctaw Nation

Katherine Ashby is based in Wilburton, Oklahoma. An acrylic and watercolor artist, Ashby is known for her Native American, western and nature paintings. Katherine draws inspiration from her heritage and rural home. Being a registered Choctaw artist adds a deep cultural layer to her work. She lives on the small ranch in southeastern Oklahoma that has been in her family for generations. She has exhibited paintings at the Choctaw Cultural Center during the Choctaw Art Show; “Through Her Eyes,” an exhibit at the Red Earth Art Center; the Jacobson House Art Biennial; “Expressions of Indigenous Joy” at the Four Mothers Collective; and in the ARTesian Art Gallery in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She continues to expand her portfolio and audience, including recent illustration work on a children’s book. Her art is a testament to the beauty and strength of Native artists.
