ᎡᏥ ᏃᏈᏏ (Etsi Noquisi) Mother Star
Tim Griffin
Category: Sculpture
Hand-built slab ceramic sculpture. Bisque-fired, hand-painted underglaze, etched, and kiln-fired (cone 6). This work explores time and space through colors and patterns. Alternating light and dark surfaces mirror cycles of day and night. Continuous lines and circular etchings on lighter surfaces represent consistent daily rhythms. Dark surface etchings, however, repeat with degrees of randomness and discontinuous edges. The center cup contains red cedar, connecting all times and spaces. “Mother Star” honors my mom, Kay (Paden) Griffin, who walked on to her heavenly home in 2026. She connects me to my Cherokee family and remains my guiding star.
