Buffalo Fish Earrings
Amanda Rutland
Jewelry
The Buffalo Fish appears throughout Southeastern art. It is at once sustenance and symbol.
These earrings are etched and repousséed in copper, giving the fish dimension and movement. The textured scales catch the light like rippling water. Amazonite beads rest above each form, their blue-green color echoing living water.
The overall silhouette carries a lure-like quality, referencing the act of fishing and the relationship between people and water. The fish moves forward, suspended in motion — a reminder that water, like life, is never still.
