Karla Blackfish is a Cherokee Nation citizen and longtime resident of Fort
Gibson, Oklahoma. Blackfish was interested in art from a very young age and was
inspired and encouraged to pursue art in college by her high school art
teacher, Carol Corley. While other influences in her life led her down a
different path, she has returned to the world of art.

She studied under Knokovtee Scott, making jewelry with Mankiller Pearl
shells and briefly studied under Steve Mashburn to make sterling silver
jewelry. She is currently studying pottery under Cherokee National Treasure
Troy Jackson and Tama Roberts. Her passion for pottery has surpassed that of
most other art forms. She considers her pottery classmates and associates her
family. She feels that creating any form of art helps you grow in character.
