I started this piece in Troy Jackson’s class, having only a couple of weeks to complete it due to illness. Carrying it into class I dropped it, cracking and flattening one side completely. My heart sank as I picked it up. I wanted to give up. I felt despair filling my soul in all aspects of my life. The entire class cried with me. Troy asked me not to give up but to use this piece to tell my story and express my inner strength. It is a symbol of my strength and hope of healing. My people lifted me.
